"It’s like a rock star.” This is the response the Dalai Lama gives writer Victor Chan when asked why some people, upon seeing him, are moved to the point of tears. “When they (rock stars) appear, some people jump and cry. It is like that” compares the Dalai Lama, waving his arms as if he were a fan. “pop” answers like this one have made him an idol accessible to the masses.
